October 4th, 2017: Alyssa Matuchniak

Ugly Mug Feature Matuchniak AlyssaAlyssa Matuchniak is a Southern Californian dweeb emerging on the poetry scene. A second-generation biracial American, she attends the Master’s in Teaching program at UCI and volunteers as a poetry reader for the online lit mag Persephone’s Daughters. She’s not sure if she’s a poet yet, but she’s working on it. Her work deals primarily with questions on mixed-race identity, the space of the female body, and the meaning of home. She has had poems published by Black Napkin Press, and is currently working on a poetry collection under the working title Small Wars, Little Revolutions, a selection of poems dedicated to exploring—and blowing open—the mystifying experience of the body and its many daily fights.
