David Ohlsen

David has been writing poetry ever since the sixth grade, and by his own free will ever since his sophomore year of High School.  This shift occurred when he was bored in his Spanish class and started writing lines about a mythic, guitar wielding biker named Left Hand Jake, a character that has, thankfully, yet to resurface in his psyche.  Later that year, he started publishing abstract, angsty, and romantic poems in the student outlet section of the San Pedro High School newspaper, the For' N' Aft,' a practice that continued randomly until he started writing for the paper his senior year.  He published another abstract, angsty, and romantic poem in El Camino Community College's literary magazine, Myriad.  He went on to get a BA in Creative Writing from UC Riverside, a place that taught him that writers don't hang in cliques because each one's a clique in and of themselves.  Since February, he has been blogging monthly about Southern California literary events for the website of Brooklyn based literary magazine, Electric Literature, and is always looking for cool events to go to.  David is also a proud graduate of Write Bloody Publishing's Dirty Dozen Workshop, and in October gained national publication in Write Bloody's Aim For the Head: An Anthology of Zombie Poetry.

Along with writing, David also likes to scribble his way through drawing and photography, and has a deep and dirty love of the arts.  He's a twenty three year old native of San Pedro, "Where the Ghetto Meets the Sea," and has been working off and on as a production assistant on music videos, commercials, tv and film shoots since 2008, though he wishes he had a job where he just had to talk to people.  He is very much looking forward to talking with you.
